WOOT WOOT! As the first event under our new #CuriosityTank branding, I’ll be moderating and sponsoring a panel on March 3rd with researchers who have transitioned from academia into industry. Our panelists, #TatianaVlahovic (also my fantastic co-host), #PaulDerby & #CelesteRoshuni will share stories and lessons learned from ramping up in #UXR & tips on how to break into #userresearch, regardless of where you are coming from. In this post, we’re asking for topics you’d like us to address. We’re starting with four basic questions: - What did you wish you knew when you transitioned into user research (from academia)? - What was your biggest surprise during your transition? - What was the best advice or feedback you received as a UXR? - What are the best ways to connect with other user researchers and find job leads? What else are we missing? Please add your suggestions in the comments below. PS. The live event will take place on Tuesday, March 3rd between 4:30-6pm PST. NOTE: You do NOT have to attend the live event to receive the recording and post-event materials. The Zoom recording, and post-event articles/resources, will be emailed to everyone who RSVPs on #Eventbrite. Details/Register >> https://lnkd.in/gFnpUzk #userexperience #cx
Awesome!!!!!!!! 🙂🎉🎈🎊
Man, how did I miss not being invited to this gig...how do y'all find these events to speak at?
Very timely topic! Thanks Michele Ronsen
Michele Ronsen great topics you are covering! Maybe you could discuss the best approach to creating a one page UXR portfolio. Thank you!
I’ve heard some cons about coming in from academia. To counter that, what are some pros for coming from an academia background? Piggybacking off the third question you have, what was the best advice you received when you first STARTED in the uxr field? What are the best ways, in 2020, to find job leads without 3+ years experience, especially for BA, MA, and PhD recent grads? There seems to be mixed opinions, so: what are your thoughts on uxr temps/contractors? Bootcamps? If you could go back and change 1-2 things—anything—at the beginning of your career what would it be? What do you wish juniors/less experienced UXRs ask (you, others, etc)?
Thanks, Michele. I look forward to listening in!
Really looking forward to the recording! I’d love any thoughts on what job applicants coming from academia can do to persuade companies wanting someone with industry experience to “take a chance” on them or other thoughts on ways that academic candidates can bridge this gap. Thanks so much!
So excited about this panel and to work with Michele and Curiosity Tank on this event!
