Episode 18: Diet and Health "Shaming" - What is it? How does it affect you? 5 steps to overcome it.

If you’re like most women, you’ve heard about “body shaming”, but have you heard of “Health or Diet Shaming??” Probably not, because I just made it up! But stick with me on today’s podcast episode! This is a real thing and chances are you’ve been impacted by it at some point or another.

Diet or Health Shaming is the guilt you feel when you realize that the current diet you've been following (even one that helped you feel much better) isn't serving you the way it once did, but you're afraid you'll be criticized for "jumping ship" and jumping on the next "diet bandwagon." (Wow that was a lot of quotation marks...)

Here's the deal. You are an ever evolving, changing and dynamic individual, and your needs can change over days, months or years. It is not only your right to listen to your intuition and make changes that serve you and help you feel amazing, it's your purpose!! We are here to feel energetic, joyous and vibrant. And part of that journey is giving our bodies what they need to make it happen.

Today we are talking about 5 steps to free you from any dietary or health box or label so that you can be free to feel your best.

Episode 17: All About Autoimmune Disease - What is it, what causes it and what can I do about it?!

I’ve wanted to do this episode for a while, because I realized a while back that not only do autoimmune diseases impact a huge percentage of women, but it’s a term that we (both in the medical community and outside of it) throw around thinking that everyone automatically has a deep understanding of what autoimmune disease is and what causes it.

In fact, I’d venture to say that many traditional practitioners don’t even have a firm grasp of autoimmunity. If you asked them what an autoimmune disease is, they’d probably say something like “It’s when your body gets confused and starts attacking itself as if it were an invader.”

Not that this is untrue, but there is so much more to the story. And there in lies the difference between conventional medicine and holistic or functional medicine. Autoimmune disease doesn’t stop with one sentence. It’s the start of an archaeological dig that can reveal so many answers as to why you are feeling the way you are and what you can do about it.

Today I’m joined by my good friend and esteemed and brilliant colleague, Dr. Emily Parke. And we are going to break it down for y’all for once and for all. Emily Parke is pretty much one of the coolest chicks I know (yes, I said that about an extremely intelligent physician).

Today we are going to give you a complete mini-training on autoimmune disease so that by the end of this episode, not only will you know more than most doctors, you'll have the knowledge and the tools to not only stop autoimmune disease in its tracks but to REVERSE it and even PREVENT it!!

Even though I am super passionate about all of the PHYSICAL changes we make to nourish our bodies, there comes a point when we have to shift to the REAL work.

I call it the REAL work, because without it, nothing else really matters. Nothing else sticks. Nothing else lasts.

The REAL work is a lot of things. It’s the inner work. It’s the loving yourself instead of belittling yourself.

It’s the forgiving yourself.

It’s stopping the judgement and the criticism.

It’s finding joy. It’s connecting with something that makes you feel better.

Does that seem lazy? Does it seem like a cop out?

I’m here to tell you to let that go. I’m here to give you big, fat permission to be lazy, to be a “cop out.”

Because I guarantee you that you will FEEL and EXPERIENCE so much more. You will GET and ACHIEVE so much more.
