“Should my cleaning business have a YouTube channel?” There are lots of house cleaners inside our network that are asking this during the Coronavirus scare. When everybody’s customers have canceled and they are at home, is this a good time for a cleaning business to start a YouTube channel?
It’s a great question and the answer is yes. The reason being is YouTube is a social media platform and uploading your videos is free. It doesn’t cost you anything. It costs you time to do the research, development, recording, and editing. As well as the distribution, and the search engine optimization all that stuff.
But right now, all the kids in your neighborhood, all the kids in your school zone have been quarantined for a couple of months. If that’s the case, there are a lot of people that are going to be out of work for a couple of months. This gives you a couple of months right now to go ahead and to start figuring out how to create a YouTube channel.
Anyone Can Learn Technology and YouTube
If technology is not your thing and you feel that you are no good at it, you can learn from YouTube. You can go on YouTube and search, “How do I start a YouTube channel? How do you make money from a YouTube channel? How do you collect viewers from your YouTube channel?”
There are videos that you can watch. You may say “Oh, that sounds hard and maybe I can do it,” and then you can try to figure it out. However, there are a whole bunch of people that will watch your YouTube channel who will never actually hire you as house cleaners.
That’s not the point of the YouTube channel. The benefit of the YouTube channel is it’s going to help you think differently about what you do. Because now you have to explain it in terms other people can understand.
Having a YouTube Channel Will Make You Better
If you’re no good at walkthroughs and you get to a customer’s house. Having a YouTube channel, that’s all going to change because now you have learned how to explain what it is you do.
The next thing to do is once you go ahead and you try to put it together, you’re going to learn about video editing. It’s important that you don’t just slap something up there, but that you edit it and get it right. For this reason, YouTube lives forever.
This is not like a Facebook Live where it disappears into the magnetism of your feed. A YouTube view can be searched and then it pops up and it’s still here five, six, seven, eight years from now.
YouTube Videos Never Go Anywhere
You can look at YouTube videos that are eight and nine years old. They don’t go anywhere. They’re still there. If you produce a good video, it’s still going to be here five, 10 years from now. And it’s still going to be collecting revenues from Google AdSense.
Now Google AdSense, what happens is you connect monetary value to your website. There are people who will pay for ads. Do you ever watch a YouTube video and in the very beginning there are a few seconds of ads and it says, “Click here to remove the ad?”
If you watch that video, then the person whose YouTube channel that is, they make a little bit of money. This helps pay for the cost of their time as they’re producing this show or if they have to hire an outside editor. “Thank you for watching the ads for my YouTube channel because we made some money that we are able to hire some extra people.”
You Can’t Unlearn Skills From YouTube
The good news is this, once you learn how to do this, you can’t unlearn it. It’s a skill that you cannot unlearn once you learn it. Over the next couple of months, while you’re at your homes, think about what you’re going to do.
Instead of being bored, teach yourself how to create a YouTube channel. Because where we’re headed right now with social media is this. Images and videos are not going away. You may say “Ugh, I like text, but let me figure out how to create interesting images and graphics.”
There are lots of software programs like Canva and PicMonkey you can use. Once you’ve created interesting graphics, you can even import those into your YouTube show to help illustrate your story.
You Learn as You Go on YouTube
As you learn and as you get better, then you will be like, “Oh, I know how to fix this. I can find a picture that explains what I’m doing and I can bring it in and I can show you so that you then know what I’m talking about,”
There are different things you can do to improve your YouTube channel a little bit. The helpful thing is this, the more you produce, all the keywords connect back to your website. It connects back to your social media, and it boosts you as a voice of authority in the marketplace.
How do You Get Your YouTube Channel Found
All things being equal if there are two house cleaners in the same city. And one of them has a YouTube channel that is the voice of authority and the other one has nothing, who’s going to be the one that’s found? YouTube is the second largest search engine on the planet and they are owned by the number one, who’s Google.
Google is a publicly-traded company and they make their money by selling ads to other people. Now the people pay for the ads because Google provides the best user experience. What happens is if they’re going to promote this house cleaner or this house cleaner, who are they going to promote in the search engines? They’re going to promote the one that has the highest authority.
If you spend all your time during this Coronavirus scare and you learn how to create high content quality videos. Then you’re going to be boosted in the search engines organically. Even without paying for ads because you provide a better user experience.
